About the NSP

The Northumberland Strategic Partnership is comprised of a wide range of organisations, which represent a cross-section of sectors and different perspectives operating within Northumberland.

The role of NSP is to:

  • promote partnership working;
  • exercise a leadership role in articulating the needs and ambitions of local communities and helping to mediate between competing interests;
  • have oversight of and co-ordinate community consultation and engagement activities;
  • co-ordinate the development of both a Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) to establish a shared vision, and a Local Area Agreement (LAA) to formalise the priorities in delivering the SCS;
  • have oversight of the planning and alignment of resources in the county;
  • review and performance manage progress against the LAA priorities and targets;
  • champion the interests of Northumberland within regional and national settings; and
  • challenge convention and advocate change where appropriate.

NSP works through a system of partnership structures designed to ensure that all interests are covered and that opportunities can be developed quickly and efficiently for the benefit of Northumberland.  These are the NSP Board, NSP Executive, Thematic Partnerships and Area Partnerships.

More information about the work of Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) is available on the Department of Communities and Local Government website.
