Local Area Agreement

A Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a short-term action plan for making the vision of the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) a reality.  All the outcomes and targets are designed to deliver the vision set out in the SCS.  You can find more general information on the LAA page of the Department of Communities and Local Government website.

The current Local Area Agreement (LAA), which was produced in March 2008 and covers the period 2008 to 2011, sets out the performance framework for the SCS.  In March 2010, the targets within the LAA were refreshed and this, with the full suite of LAA documents, can be found here.  In defining these priorities, the partnership adopted the following criteria:

  • have a cross-cutting impact upon the 28 objectives of the SCS;
  • require joined-up, effective partnership interventions to address them;
  • matter to local people;
  • represent areas of current poor performance;
  • reduce inequality or deprivation; and
  • enhance the sense and and quality of place, recognising that it differs across the county

To underpin its delivery, four Action Plans were produced relating to:

Prepared by the former NSP Sector Boards, these will be kept under review as part of the re-evaluation of the SCS.  However, an overview of progress for the first year of the LAA's implementation is available here .

Quarterly reports on performance of the LAA is available on the Northumberland County Council website and can be viewed by following this link.
